Admission Requirements

What European institutions look for

General guidance exact requirements vary by institution and programme level.

Academic transcripts

WAEC/WASSCE results or a completed degree; German taught programmes may additionally require a recognised university entrance qualification (Studienkolleg in some cases).

English proficiency

IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught programmes (common in the Netherlands and Ireland), or a German-language test (TestDaF/DSH) for German-taught programmes.

Proof of funds

Germany typically requires a blocked account (Sperrkonto) of roughly €11,000+ for the year; the Netherlands and Ireland require equivalent bank statement or sponsorship evidence.

Health insurance

Proof of valid health insurance coverage is required before a residence permit or visa is issued, in all three countries.

University admission letter

A confirmed offer of admission is required before applying for the national (Type D) visa or residence permit.
